Sociology 102 (Social Problems)
The study of social problems raises a number of questions. Is society fair? Are social problems caused by the failures of individuals? Are social problems systemic and in this sense caused by society? Is it possible to solve social problems?
These are very big questions – and there is not one correct answer. In fact, there is widespread disagreement about social problems among social scientists, political leaders and the members of society. For this reason, this course does not set out to provide you with the final answers. Instead, the course is designed to help you think about social problems and to become a critical consumer when others talk about them.
