Housing information
Where will I live?
You will be house in McCroskey
residence hall. McCroskey is centrally located with a maximum five minute
walk to most parts of the university. Whether Summer Advantage students will be assigned roommates will depend on the number of students that enroll in the program. You
and other Summer Advantage students will be the only occupants of this nice and recently renovated residence hall. During the academic year McCroskey serves as the international residence hall and residents in the hall are required to sign a community involvement agreement. You will not be asked to sign the agreement. You may click
here to get more information about room sizes and accommodations
for this popular living community.
McCroskey International
House was newly renovated in fall 2001. McCroskey Hall features a large,
spacious lobby complete with fire place, a sun room, piano, and plenty
of couches, chairs, and tables for you to socialize and study in. The
second floor also features a smaller study room. The basement features
a full kitchen with pots and pans for cooking, a recreation room with
a pool table, big screen TV, DVD player and VCR. Laundry facilities
are also located in the basement. Laundry is free to McCroskey residents.
The third floor also has a sun porch. A high-speed Internet (Data
Ethernet) connection is available in all residence hall rooms. Look
here for system requirements. To get your computer connected to
the WSU Network, Advantage students must have a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet
card. Each room is equipped with a digital phone but the cost of activating the phone is extra. If you would like to activate your phone please e-mail advantage@wsu.edu. Long distance accessibility is available through
the campus Communication
and Network Services. Summer Advantage staff will be available to
assist students with computer connections and telephone operations.
All students will
have an extra long twin bed (regular twin sheets won't fit our
beds), desk, dresser drawers, closet, and cable for TV available
to them in their rooms. The cable and Ethernet services are included in your housing payment. You will find links
to the current channel listing, a programming guide, connection instructions
and other useful information here: Cable
FAQ.
Resident hall staff
Residence halls are staffed by undergraduate resident advisors at an
approximate staff ratio of 15:1. Resident advisors are available to
offer support and guidance based on their own experiences as students
at Washington State University. They will assist you in becoming familiar
with campus and will encourage you to learn the most effective techniques
for academic achievement through time management, study skills, and
leadership workshops that are provided through the program. Resident
advisors will keep participants advised of campus activities, intramural
opportunities, and club organization
to participate in during your free time.
Parking information
If you will be bringing your car during the time you are at Summer Advantage you will have several options for purchasing parking permits. You may choose from parking lots designated for Crimson 1 or Green 2. Click here to view a parking map. You may also choose to forego a permit and choose to park on streets close to McCroskey Hall (i.e. Linden Ave or Campus St.).
Transportation alternatives
For student that need transportation
to local stores but don't have a car can use the Pullman
Transit without charge by showing their WSU student ID cards. Anywhere
Pullman Transit goes, use your CougarCard (another name for your ID card) as your pass. Wheatland Express operates a commuter bus between Moscow and Pullman. The service is available
to anyone and offers convenient extended operating hours. You may use
Wheatland Express for your daily commute or for sight-seeing, shopping,
or visiting in Pullman and Moscow. This service is also free to all WSU students with an ID card to show to the driver.
