Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where is my billing statement?
A. WSU is no longer mailing billing statements for tuition and fees. Students do not need a billing statement to pay tuition and fees.  Summer Session fees are due on the published deadlines regardless of whether or not a billing statement is received.  It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of fee amounts and payment deadlines and to pay accordingly.  Account balances can be accessed through myWSU, or by checking with Student Accounts, 342 French Administration Building. It is imperative that you communicate your account information timely with your parents or any other party who may be making payments on your behalf.  They won’t have access to your account as that is private information that WSU cannot share with anyone other than the student without written permission from the student.  Contact Student Accounts for more information at (509) 335-9651.

Q. How do I pay tuition and fees?
A. You can access and pay your student account by logging on to myWSU or by visiting http://www.ba.wsu.edu/studacct/howtopay.htm.

Q. Why am I being charged for a course that has not started yet?
A. Courses with an arranged date are considered early six week courses.  This includes all independent study, internships, graduate theses, etc., and will be charged to your account the same as early six week courses with tuition due by Friday, May 25, 2007.

Q. When and how can I register for classes?
A. Registration on myWSU begins April 9. MyWSU provides registration services online at http://www.my.wsu.edu. MyWSU is available 24 hours a day for summer registration beginning April 9 through the end of summer.

Q. Is housing offered during the summer?
A. Those interested in housing for the summer should contact Housing Services at (509) 335-4577.

Q. How many credits can I take in the summer?
A. The recommended credit load is no more than three credits in four weeks, six credits in six weeks or nine credits in eight weeks.

Because of the short duration of summer offerings, caution should be exercised when selecting the number of credits for each block. For example, nine credits taken in a six-week period is equivalent to 22.5 credits taken during a 15-week semester; six credits in a four-week period is equivalent to 24 credits in a 15-week semester.

Graduate students should contact the Graduate School, 324 French Administration Building, Washington State University, PO Box 641030, Pullman, WA 99164-1030, (509) 335-1446.

Q. How do I add or drop a course?
A. Courses are added or dropped using myWSU. Deadlines for adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses vary according to the duration of the course. Refer to “Enrollment Change Deadlines.” After the deadline to add a course, students must obtain an Enrollment Change Form from our office, get the instructor’s signature, pay full tuition and fees, and return the form to the Summer Session Office at 346 French Administration Building.

Q. How do I withdraw from a course?
A. Deadlines for withdrawing from a course vary according to the duration of the course. Refer to “Enrollment Change Deadlines.” Course withdrawals are done on myWSU. When withdrawing from a course, there is NO REFUND and any unpaid tuition and fees remain on your account. Tuition for a withdrawal cannot be transferred to another course. A grade of “W” will be marked on the student’s transcript.

Q. Why am I unable to drop/withdraw from a course?
A. Students are not allowed to drop or withdraw from their last or only course. They must cancel their enrollment through the Summer Session Office. Cancellation of enrollment removes a student from ALL summer courses. Refunds are given for cancellations that follow the established refund deadlines (see Enrollment Change Deadlines). Students cancel their enrollment online at www.cancel.wsu.edu. Contact the Summer Session Office at (509) 335-2238 for more information.

Q. How can I petition for an exception to an academic calendar deadline?

A. Students may, with a payment of a service fee, petition for exceptions to the academic calendar deadlines for summer (i.e., withdraw after the deadline). Petitions are considered only in the case of extraordinary circumstances, such as medical emergencies and require supporting documentation. Undergraduate and professional students obtain a petition form through the Registrar’s Office. Graduate students petition through the Graduate School. Requests for exceptions must be made within two years of the date of enrollment in the course. Contact the Summer Session Office at (509) 335-2238 for assistance.

Q. What is the difference between disenrollment and re-enrollment and how does it affect me?

A. Disenrollment occurs when all tuition and fees have not been paid. Students disenrolled from summer courses will be charged 100 percent of the full tuition owing at the time of disenrollment. Students are not dropped from courses for nonattendance and will be disenrolled for nonpayment if they do not cancel their enrollment or drop their courses within the deadlines. A "W" will be marked on the student's transcript. Students re-enroll by paying a $50 re-enrollment fee, late payment fees, special course fees, and full tuition. Disenrolled students are required to re-enroll in all courses in which they originally registered. The "W" will be replaced with a grade for the course at the time all Summer Session tuition is paid.
