Summer Educational Benefits for WSU Employees


An eligible individual may enroll in academic courses during summer session without paying regular tuition on a space-available basis. A limited number of additional students are accepted if the class can be taught without incurring additional costs. Regular tuition-paying students are given priority.

Individuals must submit a Summer Educational Benefits Request form to the Summer Session Office by 5:00 p.m. on the first day of class.

If you are not enrolled in the previous spring term, you must apply for admission to Summer Session by completing a Summer Session Non-Degree application online.

Eligible Individuals

  • A civil service employee holding a half-time or greater appointment and having permanent status by the first day of class which he or she wants to take.

  • A civil service employee on a trial service appointment meeting the above criteria.

  • A faculty or administrative professional employee holding a half-time or greater appointment.

  • An employee covered by a collective bargaining unit agreement is eligible on the same basis as a civil service employee unless otherwise defined by the terms of the applicable bargaining unit contract.

Fees


There is a non-refundable $5.00 administrative fee plus special course fees, laboratory fees, and late payment fees. The $5.00 fee cannot be paid with an Interdepartmental Requisition and Invoice (IRI).

Maximum Credit Load


Eligible individuals may enroll up to four semester credit hours during the summer. Hours may be in any combination of credit and audit hours. Individuals enrolling for more than the maximum credits are not eligible for the benefit.

Excepted Courses


The benefit may not be used for the following types of courses:

  • Internships;

  • Tutorials, private lessons, or pacticums;

  • Center for Distance and Professional Education (CDPE) degree classes;

  • Distance Degree Program (DDP) classes;

  • Independent study, including courses numbered 499, 600, 700, 702, and 800.
